Raw Sauerkraut Recipe

One way of optimizing the bacteria in your gut is by adding fermented foods to your wholesome diet.
There are a lot of fermented foods that you can indulge in, such as kefir, tempeh, kimchi, and miso. You can also easily make fermented vegetables at home.
One of my personal favorites is sauerkraut, which is rich in beneficial bacteria and at the same time tastes so good. So if you love cabbage, this raw sauerkraut recipe is a must-try.
Ingredients
  • 1 whole green cabbage
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 carrots, grated
  • Celery juice
  • Starter culture
Procedure:
  1. Grate, shred, or slice the cabbage thinly, except for the outer leaves (set them aside). Shred the carrots and ginger, and add to the cabbage.
  2. Mix the starter culture in the celery juice, making sure it’s completely dissolved. Add the juice to your vegetables, spreading it out evenly.
  3. Put as much as sauerkraut in a ceramic pot or glass container as you can.
  4. Get a masher, and mash the vegetables down. This will release more juices in your sauerkraut and eliminate any air pockets.
  5. Place a cabbage leaf on top of your sauerkraut, and tuck it down the sides. Cover the jar with the lid loosely (Fermentation produces carbon dioxide, which will expand the jar).
  6. Store the container in a place with a controlled temperature, like a cooler, for 5 to 7 days. On the seventh day, transfer the sauerkraut to the refrigerator.

Did You Know?
  • One way of optimizing the balance between the good and bad bacteria in your gut is by eating fermented foods
  • Sauerkraut is rich in vitamin K that helps strengthen your bones and releases proteins, which regulate bone mineralization
  • Cabbage is an abundant source of vitamin K and provides 85 percent of the required amount your body needs
  • Research has shown that high levels of glucosinolate found in sauerkraut, once they break down, may reduce the DNA damage and cell mutation during the formation of cancer (carcinogenesis)

Raw Sauerkraut Preparation Tips

You can customize your sauerkraut recipe according to your taste. Beets, garlic, shredded celery, golden beets, sweet potato, bell peppers, and parsley are wonderful choices. You can use any herb you like, such as thyme or cilantro. Adding a habanero pepper also adds a bit of spiciness to your sauerkraut (wear gloves when handling peppers as they can burn your skin).

Choose cabbage that is blemish-free and has compact leaves. Do not pick those that are too light for their size and have broken leaves.
It is best to store your sauerkraut or any other fermented food in a glass jar. Avoid using plastic containers, as they have bisphenol-A, which can leach into your food. Metal jars are also not recommended.
Pick ginger roots that are firm, smooth, and free from mold. If you are going to slice instead of grate it, make the slices as thin as possible.
By storing your carrots in the coolest part of your refrigerator, you can maintain their freshness for two weeks. However, do not put them beside apples or pears, as their ethylene gas can make your carrots bitter.

Why Is Raw Sauerkraut Good for You?

Raw sauerkraut is light on your pocket but heavy on health benefits. Aside from providing good bacteria for your gut, it also:
  • Has anti-cancer properties. Research has shown that high levels of glucosinolate found in sauerkraut, once they break down, may reduce the DNA damage and cell mutation during the formation of cancer (carcinogenesis). The same study also found out that women who ate at least three servings of sauerkraut and short-cooked cabbage have a lower breast cancer risk than those who consumed one serving per week.
  • Is an excellent source of vitamin C. A serving of sauerkraut provides 35 percent of the average recommended intake of vitamin C, which is vital in the production of white blood cells, and promotes cell regeneration and repair.
  • Supports bone growth. Sauerkraut is rich in vitamin K that helps strengthen your bones and releases proteins, which regulate bone mineralization. A single serving offers 23 percent of the daily recommended intake.
  • Maintains good eye health. Fermented cabbage provides high levels of vitamin A, which can reduce your risk for macular degeneration and cataracts.
  • Fights inflammation. Sauerkraut’s anti-inflammatory properties are attributed to its phytonutrient antioxidants, which can help lessen the pain in joints and muscles.
Fermented foods like sauerkraut are actually a vital component of the Gut and Psychology/Physiology Syndrome (GAPS) program developed by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. She has been using this program to help heal patients suffering from different illnesses like autism, epilepsy, mood disorders, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, celiac disease, and more. The beneficial bacteria from the cultured foods, which her patients consumed daily, helped remove heavy metals and toxins from the body, which improved their immune system.
Beneficial bacteria from fermented foods also provide the following important health benefits:
  • Helps prevent obesity and diabetes
  • Improve mood and physical health
  • Regulate fat absorption
  • Produce B vitamins and vitamin K2
If you are new to eating fermented foods, you should take it slow. Start off with one teaspoon of sauerkraut per meal so as not to overwhelm your gastrointestinal tract and cause a healing crisis, which occurs when the probiotics kill the pathogens in it. Gradually increase your serving of fermented foods as tolerated by your body.
Once you are fully acquainted with cultured foods, eat one quarter to one-half cup of fermented vegetables along with one to three meals per day to reap the health benefits that these foods offer.

Prevent artery hardening and calcium buildup with aged garlic

The cholesterol theory of atherosclerotic disease is one of the biggest medical hoaxes of our time, as is the widespread administration of statin drugs as "treatment" for high cholesterol. Published science has verified that lowering cholesterol with statins does absolutely nothing to prevent coronary heart disease and other cardiovascular events, while at the same time increasing users' risk of dementia and death.

The real problem is a buildup of calcium in the arteries caused not by cholesterol but by systemic inflammation that causes cholesterol to act in ways that are sometimes damaging to the circulatory system. Lowering cholesterol, in other words, targets the symptom of a much greater root cause, which Dr. Jeffrey Dach, M.D., explains can be effectively treated through the consumption of aged garlic.

He recently published a powerful report on the benefits of aged garlic, which has been shown in multiple published studies to reduce coronary calcium buildup and even eliminate it in some cases. It turns out that statins don't actually do this; instead, they act only to deprive patients of much-needed cholesterol, which is food for the brain, and they can even increase the progression of calcium buildup.

Citing extensive research compiled by Dr. William R. Ware, Ph.D., a faculty member at the University of Ontario in Canada, Dr. Dach highlights a series of studies showing that statin treatment offers no improvements for patients' calcium scores; in some cases, it actually worsens it. At least five separate randomized, controlled studies, as of the year 2010, reveal that statins do not reduce patients' coronary calcium scores.

Aged garlic, on the other hand, does reduce coronary calcium scores, as evidenced by a series of studies published during the same time in various other journals. For example, one study published in the Journal of Nutrition back in 2006 found that patients assigned to take 4 milliliters of aged garlic (1,200 milligrams of KYOLIC Aged Garlic Liquid) showed only a 7.5 percent progression of calcium score after the first year, compared to 22.2 percent progression in the placebo group.

Another study published in Preventive Medicine in 2009 showed similar benefits from taking aged garlic, especially when supplemented with vitamins B12, B6, folate and the amino acid l-arginine. After one year of treatment, patients in the garlic and nutrient group saw a 6.8 percent progression in calcium score compared to 26.5 percent in the placebo group.

In 2010, the results of a randomized trial published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Research found that calcium scores progressed much more slowly in patients taking aged garlic and other synergistic nutrients compared to patients who were taking only statins and a placebo.

"As we can see from the ... studies, statin drugs are quite effective for lowering cholesterol, yet fail to reduce or slow progression of calcium score," writes Dr. Dach. "Again, this provides even more evidence falsifying the cholesterol theory of atherosclerotic heart disease."

Garlic helps improve gut health and prevent atherosclerotic plaque and "biofilm"

Other benefits of consuming garlic include protection against harmful microbes and the destruction of atherosclerotic plaque and "biofilm." Unlike conventional antibiotics, garlic's antimicrobial activity targets only harmful microbes, making it one of nature's superior antibiotic foods. Garlic also targets arterial plaque buildup, or what is now commonly referred to as "biofilm."

"Bacterial biofilms are far more resistant than individual bacteria to the armories of antibiotics we have devised to combat them," explains the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), referencing a study published in the May 2012 issue of the journal Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy that found that key components of garlic help prevent biofilm, or matrices of harmful bacteria, from forming within the body.

ASM notes that the researchers involved in this important study "pinpointed a constituent of garlic that attacks a key step in the development of biofilms."

Horror: ISIS booby-traps baby to explode

NSFW  (GRAPHIC CONTENT)

ISIS has become known for its depraved attacks on Christians and other people of other faiths in the Middle East that include sexual assault, crucifixion, beheading and even the killing of children by sword or gun.
But a new report reveals that the Muslim organization marching across Iraq and Syria, claiming territory and portraying itself as a caliphate of Islam, has descended even further.
To the level of booby-trapping and exploding an infant.
The report comes from the website of former Palestinian terrorist-turned Christian Walid Shoebat.
Shoebat on Monday cited Arabic language news sources in the Middle East reporting that in Iraq, Diyala Province Security Committee Chairman Sadiq el-Husseini said, according to Al-Sumeriah News, that ISIS “booby trapped the baby north of Shirqat in the Saladin Province and then in front of tens of armed ISIS men detonated it from afar.”
The report, according to Shoebat, added that the baby’s father was executed just weeks ago for participating in the killing of an ISIS member.
Shoebat said the baby was then rigged and then detonated as part of a training exercise by ISIS to teach its fighters booby-trapping techniques.

Leaked Documents Show FBI, DEA, & Army Can Control Your Computer

Carey Wedler
July 7, 2015
(ANTIMEDIA) Leaked emails from an Italian-based hacking company reveal that government agencies engage in surveillance more invasive than previously thought, spending millions of dollars on spyware and malware software to accomplish their questionable goals. Tellingly, their use of the product places them squarely in the same category as other repressive regimes around the world.
After hackers ironically hacked Hacking Team, a Milan-based company that sells strictly to governments, hundreds of gigabytes of emails and financial records were leaked. The emails show that the FBI, DEA, and U.S. Army all purchased software that enables them to view suspects’ photos, emails, listen to and record their conversations, and activate the cameras on their computers, among other things.
While this may seem like old news, the most controversial revelation was the government’s purchases of “Remote Control Systems.” The FBI, DEA, and U.S. Army, courtesy of Hacking Team, possess the capability to take control of a suspect’s computer screen. The technology is so invasive that even the DEA, known for its violative surveillance policies, had reservations about purchasing it.
According to documents obtained by The Intercept, an internal request to purchase RCS was denied by DEA management in 2011 because it was “too controversial.” By 2012, however, the DEA had resolved its concerns, likely spending a similar amount to the $773,226.64 (plus thousands in maintenance fees) the FBI invested in its own set of software.
Hacking Team was so committed to business with these American agencies that it concocted codenames to refer to them. As The Intercept summarizes,
Hacking Team refers to its U.S. clients by code names. The FBI unit is ‘Phoebe’…the DEA is ‘Katie,’  and the CIA, which appears to have sampled, but not bought Remote Control System, is ‘Marianne.’”
Hacking Team has been sharply criticized for its sale of RCS to oppressive regimes around the world. From Sudan to Bahrain, Hacking Team seeks business opportunities with rulers that target political activists, journalists, and political opponents—putting the American government agencies that employ the same technology—and often have the same objectives— in questionable company.
Aside from RCS, one of the more contentious revelations is the company’s hard sell that it can bypass encryption, a capability the FBI has openly desired since phone companies made encryption a default setting last year. According to one company newsletter, Hacking Team offers “technologies to ACCESS THE DATA…IN CLEARTEXT, BEFORE it gets encrypted by the device and sent to the network and AFTER it is received from the network and decrypted by the device itself. Actually, THIS IS precisely WHAT WE DO.
The FBI did seek warrants to use Hacking Team technology in a handful of cases, but apparently uses a different platform for “critical” investigations. What the FBI really wanted from the Italian firm, according to leaked emails, was “more ability to go after users of Tor, the anonymizing web browser.” Such users accounted for 60% of the FBI’s use of Hacking Team products.
Regardless of how the technology is used, the FBI has encountered skepticism from lawmakers. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, asked the director of the FBI for “more specific information about the FBI’s current use of spyware,” in order for the Senate Judiciary Committee to investigate “serious privacy concerns.
In spite of these legitimate concerns, the technology is permeating other levels of government. Largely because of aggressive marketing by Hacking Team, District Attorney offices around the country are eager to use the software. From San Bernadino to Manhattan, government lawyers have expressed strong interest in using the company’s products for investigations, suggesting a dangerous permeation of unconstitutional surveillance into an already decaying justice system.
Whether or not the government agencies who have purchased the software use it extensively or not is, at this point, irrelevant. That such bureaus and government officials have so much as the desire to use it–in some cases, in spite of a clear understanding of its controversial nature—is cause enough for concern.
Meanwhile, Hacking Team has remained ambivalent. Company spokesperson Eric Rabe said, “we do not disclose the names or locations of our clients” and “we cannot comment on the validity of documents purportedly from our company.”
More telling of the company’s rationalization of perpetuating authoritarianism in the name of profit, however, is a quote from Giancarlo Russo, the company’s chief operating officer. In a 2013 email, he wrote,
If you buy a Ferrari… they can teach you how to drive. They cannot grant you will be the winner of the race…If Beretta sell [sic] you a gun, the most peculiar and sophisticated one, they can teach how to use it. They can not grant you are going to shoot your target properly on the field.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article referred to Hacking Team as “Hacking Tools.” The error has since been corrected.

Benefits of beets documented to defeat cancer

Beets have long been known as a healthy source of nutrients, but – now, more than ever – scientific evidence continues to support beets as a natural cure for cancer.  Labeled “beet root chemotherapy” by some health experts, actual scientific research reveals the astounding cases of remission in cancer patients who were given high concentrations of beet root.

This root vegetable, best known for its red color, has been enjoyed in various forms for generations as a healthy source of iron, as well as potassium, phosphorus, calcium, sulfur, magnesium, iodine and a number of trace minerals. But, the combination of certain elements found only in specific combinations and concentrations within the beet give this veggie its cancer fighting and disease preventing power.

Pope Francis slams GMO and chemical companies for destroying health and environment for profit

A controversial new encyclical by Pope Francis set for release by the Vatican casts blame for worsening environmental damage on technology that is in common use today. In particular, the pontiff blames agricultural and fossil fuel technology for destroying ecosystems and changing the planet's climate patterns.

In addition, the Holy See's encyclical hits GMOs and pesticides as it calls for the financing of independent and interdisciplinary research to study their effects.

"It is difficult to give an overall judgment on the development of genetically modified organisms (GMO), plant or animal, for medical purposes or in agriculture, since they can be very different and require different considerations," says the encyclical, according to a version that was leaked prior to its official issuance.

"GMOs is an issue which is complex, it must be approached with a sympathetic look at all its aspects, and this requires at least one more effort to finance several lines of independent and interdisciplinary research... as we have seen in this chapter, the technique is unlikely to be able to ...self-limit its power," he wrote, according to the leaked version.

Solving problems in a way that creates new ones

In addition, he said that humans "get sick" after inhaling large amounts of smoke that is produced by the use of fossil fuels "for cooking and heating." That is compounded by the use of "fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and toxic pesticides." He further observed that while technology is often useful in solving some problems, it usually creates other problems.

That, in turn, "creates a vicious circle in which the intervention of the human being to solve a problem often worsens the situation further," he continued. "For example, many birds and insects die out as a result of toxic pesticides created by technology, they are useful to agriculture itself, and their disappearance will be compensated with another technological intervention that probably will bring new harmful effects..."

The pope also discusses the effects of GMO agriculture on the poor, the independent farmer and the non-corporate operation:

Although we do not have definitive evidence about the damage that transgenic cereals could cause to humans, and in some regions their use has produced economic growth that has helped solve some problems, there are significant problems that should not be minimized. In many areas, following the introduction of these crops, there has been a concentration of productive land in the hands of the few, due to the gradual disappearance of small producers, who, as a consequence of the loss of cultivated land, have been forced to retreat from direct production.

He said that temporary workers and many farm workers who migrate to perform their duties often "end up in miserable urban settlements," and technology doesn't seem to be improving their condition much.

Global warming assertion doesn't jibe with actual data

"The spread of these (GM) crops destroys the complex web of ecosystems, decreases diversity in production and affects the present and the future of regional economies," he wrote. "In several countries there is a trend in the development of oligopolies in the production of seeds and other products needed for cultivation, and the dependence deepens when you consider the production of sterile seeds, which end up forcing farmers to buy (seeds) from producers."

The encyclical has been criticized by a number of scientists and other experts largely for pushing the climate change agenda. In that respect, the pope's encyclical asserts that climate change is real, that it is being caused by mankind, and that the earth is growing warmer due to man-caused activity.

However, many note that such assertions don't jibe with factual climate data, including the most recent refutation of global warming based on 10-year data from the United States' most advanced climate tracking station operated by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Nevertheless, the pope's encyclical contains some important discussion points that ought to be widely considered instead of simply dismissed out of hand, especially his concerns that too many of the world's financial resources are being concentrated in too few hands.
